This portrait descended in the family. Henry Custis I (ca. 1677-1733) was the son of John Custis III (1658-1713). Henry Custis II (1710-1751) was his son. The portrait descended with one identified as Tabitha Scarborough Custis (1660-1673). The date of this portrait is unclear, though it appears to be mid-eighteenth-century and shares stylistic similarity to a portrait of John Custis IV.
