Amelia Davies (b. 1756)

Amelia Davies (or Davis) cannot currently be identified. However, she is identified by an inscription on the back of the portrait. It descended with a portrait identified as Samuel Davies (or Davis).

Dimensions: 30 x 25 in. (76.2 x 63.5 cm.)

The subject wears a blue silk dress trimmed with ruffled trim, lace, and bows on elbows. A rose brooch is attached to a bow at her breast. She wears a black cord necklace with a heart-shaped pendant and a two strand pearl necklace tied at the back of her neck with a bow. She has a floral hairpiece. She is turned three-quarters to her right. Her right hand is raised and a red cardinal sits on her hand. She is inside a painted oval frame. Signed and dated on the back according to FARL records: “Amelia Davies, aged 19, J. Durand p. A.D. 1775.”
