This portrait appears to have descended in the family. Colonel William Fairfax built Belvoir in Virginia. He was a relative of and agent for Lord Fairfax, one of the Proprietors of the Northern Neck of Virginia.

The subject appears to be a young man wearing armor under a jacket and inside a painted oval frame.
