Elizabeth Brown Wallace was the daughter of Dr. Gustavus Brown and Frances Fowke of Maryland. She married Michael Wallace, who came from Scotland to serve as an indentured apprentice to her father. The couple relocated to Falmouth, Virginia and purchased land where they built Ellerslie Plantation in 1748.
The subject wears a pink dress with a jeweled clasp at her bust and holds a rose. The portrait is signed and dated.
Special thanks to Richmond Conservation Studios for bringing this portrait to my attention.
