Martha Walker

Martha Walker was the daughter of Dr. Robert Walker and Elizabeth Stark of Kingston in Dinwiddie County. She married Richard Peters Barton (1763-1821). They lived at Springdale in Frederick County, where the portrait descended.

The portrait features a young woman wearing a blue dress with buttons down her bodice and lace trim at her neckline. She wears a floral hairpiece and a black ribbon as a necklace. Her right hand holds a rose up to her chest. Her left hand holds a basket of flowers. She stands outdoors in a landscape. Painted spandrels appear in the corners.
