Mary Harrison was the daughter of Nathaniel Harrison and Mary Cary Harrison of Berkeley. She was the second wife of James Gordon. She is painted with her son, James Gordon.

The portrait represents a woman wearing a silver dress with a jeweled clasp and pearls at her breast and elbows. She is seated and holds a baby in her lap. The baby wears a simple white dress and cap. She appears to be seated indoors with a view of trees behind her.
