Jamestown

Jamestown was the site of the first permanent English settlement. It was the colonial capitol of Virginia until 1699. The Jaquelin and Ambler families were prominent residents who remained on Jamestown Island into the eighteenth century.

Historic Jamestowne, including the ruins of the Ambler family mansion, are managed by the National Park Service. See: https://www.nps.gov/jame/index.htm
