The subject is identified according to family tradition. It appears to have descended with a portrait identified as her husband and it could potentially be by the same artist. Hannah Harrison was the daughter of Benjamin Harrison and Hannah Churchill Harrison. She married Philip Ludwell II of Greensprings. She was the mother of Hannah Ludwell Lee (Mrs. Thomas Lee) and Philip Ludwell III. Many, if not all, of the Ludwell family portraits from Greensprings Plantation were inherited by Hannah Ludwell Lee and moved to Stratford Hall in the mid-eighteenth century after Philip Ludwell III settled permanently in England in 1760.
Dimensions: 30 x 25 in. (76.2 x 63.5 cm.)
The subject wears a blue dress with silver embroidery at the neckline, a jeweled clasp, and a red drape wrapped around her. She appears inside a painted oval frame.
