called John Baird

Artist: John Durand
Date: 1770-1776

This man is believed to be John Baird who emigrated from Scotland. He was the father of Anna Baird. However, the woman identified as Anna Baird appears to be of a similar age, so it is possible that one of the portraits is misidentified. There is no firm date on this portrait, so it is possible that it dates to the 1780s.

Dimensions: 29 1/4 x 24 1/8 in. (74.3 x 61.24 cm.)

The portrait represents a man wearing a dark coat, light colored waistcoat, and noticeable cuff links. His right hand is in his waistcoat and his left hand rests on a walking stick or baton of some sort. He is turned three-quarters to his left.
