Fielding Lewis, Jr. (1751-1803)

Fielding Lewis, Jr. was the son of Fielding Lewis and Betty Washington Lewis. This portrait was commissioned by the father to hang at Kenmore between 1772 and 1775.

The subject is seated on a wooden chair with his left arm draped over it and his right hand in his waistcoat. He wears a brown jacket over an embroidered, gold waistcoat. On the table in front of him is a worn book. “1751” is visible on the book cover.
