Robert Dowsing

Carolyn J. Weekley has argued that Robert Dowsing (1701-1730) is the Jaquelin-Brodnax limner who painted a group of family portraits ca. 1720. His 1737 probate inventory includes painting materials. Richard Ambler, who married Elizabeth Jaquelin, witnessed a legal document for Dowsing. Dowsing also lived near Yorktown and Jamestown where the Jaquelin and Brodnax families lived.
