Elizabeth Harrison Randolph (Mrs. Peyton Randolph, d. 1783)

Elizabeth Harrison was the daughter of Benjamin and Anne Carter Harrison of Berkeley. She married Peyton Randolph of Williamsburg. The subject is identified by family tradition. The portrait was commissioned by William Randolph III of Wilton, who was married to the subject’s sister, Anne Harrison Randolph. William Randolph III was also a cousin of Peyton Randolph.

Dimensions: 36 x 29 in. (91.44 x 73.66 cm.)

The subject wears a silvery Van Dyck-inspired dress with a breastknot. A blue drape is over her right arm and she holds a closed fan. She is angled towards her right.
